Annual Events

An Afternoon by the Swift
An Afternoon by the Swift is the Arts Council of Tamworth’s free summer outdoor music festival, featuring live music, a variety of food trucks, lawn games, family-friendly activities, specialty drinks from the distillery, and more.

Battle of the Brushes
The Battle of the Brushes brings together talented local painters for an exciting painting competition while helping ACT raise funds to support our mission to bring the arts to everyone!

Tamworth Swift River Regatta
The Arts Council of Tamworth’s Swift River Regatta brings together kids of all ages in a friendly competition that’s a great spectator event.

Tamworth Author Fest
The Tamworth Author Fest is co-hosted by the Arts Council of Tamworth and Cook Memorial Library. This annual event features live readings, book signings, and more from a host of regional authors across a wide variety of literary genres.

Recurring Programs

Artists in Residency Program
The Artists in Residency Program brings diverse, talented professional artists from all over the New England region (and beyond) into the K. A. Brett School for a week of learning, exploring, and creating. The week is capped off with student presentations of their artwork and a public community performance from the Artist in Residence. The program hosts two residencies each year, one in the fall semester and one in the spring semester.

Monthly Song & Jam Circle
The Monthly Song & Jam Circle hosts regional musicians every third Monday of the month at Runnells Hall. The circle provides a relaxed, informal environment for musicians of all skill levels to create music together.

Monthly Casual Sewing Group‍ ‍
Join the Arts Council of Tamworth at the Cook Memorial Library every fourth Tuesday of the month to work on your sewing projects, learn from your other local stitchers, and enjoy fellowship and creativity.

Children’s Programs
In addition to the Artists in Residency Program, the Arts Council of Tamworth partners with the Tamworth Parks & Recreation Department and Cook Memorial Library to bring a range of arts-focused programming to Tamworth’s youth. Recent programming has included bringing a mural painting project to the Tamworth Summer Enrichment Program.

Adult and Family Programs
The Arts Council believes that the arts should be made available to all ages, and recent adult and family programming has included An Afternoon by the Swift, a music and food festival that drew crowds in excess of 200.

Special Projects


Tamworth 250th Anniversary Mosaic
Located at the K.A. Brett School, the Tamworth 250th Mosaic was created in 2016, Tamworth’s 250th year, by hundreds of children and adults , as well as dozens of tireless volunteers, working with guiding support from mural artist David Fichter.

White Mountains Pride Art
The Arts Council of Tamworth had a table at the 2025 White Mountains Pride and brought scratch art supplies for people to make their own scratch art.

    An Afternoon by the Swift

    A new way to kick off the summer season, An Afternoon by the Swift debuted June 8, 2024. The White Mountain Band Area 603, the Bakery Band and the Caravan Band played to an enthusiastic crowd of more than 200. Delicious food truck food was provided by the Tamworth Outing Club, 603 Shanty, and Papa Bean’s, as well as spirits from the Tamworth Distillery.

    “Sublime Odissi,” The Art of Classical Indian Dance

    In April 2024, ACT brought was pleased to present “Sublime Odissi,” the art of classical Indian Dance with Mouli Pal, a mesmerizing performer, dedicated teacher, and emerging choreographer. As Artist in Residence, Mouli taught her dance form to K.A. Brett School student, made a presenation about her art the Cook Memorial Library, and provided a memorable evening performance at the Public House on Page Hill.

    Virtual Concert Series

    During the early days of COVID-19, Arts Council of Tamworth went virtual with performances from Regi Carpenter, Fiona Howell, and The Bakery Band. Check out the full performance here!

    Los Sugar Kings

    Arts Council of Tamworth celebrates another successful program season with a Cuban-themed benefit dinner and a fabulous concert/dance party with Boston-based cuban roots band Los Sugar Kings!

    Beginners Dance Lessons

    Dance instructor Elizabeth Converse led six weeks of lessons in ballroom dance and West Coast Swing dancing at the Tamworth Town House in Autumn 2024. The lessons were followed by two festive dance socials held in November 2024 and January 2025 at Runnells Hall, where everyone got to show off their dance skills and have fun.

    Los Lorcas

    In November 2024, troubadour band Los Lorcas performed in Tamworth, sharing their unique blend of music and poetry. In the spirit of Federico Garcia Lorca—gifted musician, legendary poet/playwright and ebullient performer—poets Partridge Boswell and Peter Money team up with guitarist Nat Williams to explore common roots and synergies of poetry and music, celebrating the poetry of song lyrics and music of lyrical poetry.

    Origami Boxes with Marsha Carlin

    The Arts Council of Tamworth and Remick Country Doctor Museum & Farm hosted an origami boxes workshop led by Marsha Carlin in February 2025. Participants learned how to create their own beautiful boxes using recycled materials from home.

    Landaya Residency and Concert

    Master drummer Sayon Camara, hailing from Guinea, West Africa, joined forces with multi-instrumentalists Dave Kobrenski and Grant Ellerbeck for a spellbinding performance of Malinké music in April 2025. The performance capped off a week-long artist residency at the K.A. Brett School, where the musicians taught students to play traditional rhythms on the djembe, sing songs in Malinké, and even perform a bit of West African dance.
