About Us

Mission

Our mission is to provide accessible arts and cultural opportunities that support diversity & community connection.

History

The Arts Council of Tamworth originated in Tamworth's Bicentennial Celebration of August 1966. In preparation for that event, local citizens met to determine how best to commemorate the town's history and decided to hold major art exhibits to celebrate the talents, interests, and creative abilities of residents past and present. During the following winter the planners of the celebration gauged community interest in forming a more permanent organization dedicated to the arts, and a permanent arts committee was formed. The Arts Council formally incorporated and registered as a 501(c)(3) non-profit agency in the 1970s.

The organization has grown and developed with the times to best fulfill its mission to serve the community. In this second decade of the 21st century, the work remains community-focused and accessible — all engagements and interactions will have a free entry option for participants. In addition to servicing community members, ACT also extends to Tamworth’s local youth population by bringing multiple artist residencies & art projects to Tamworth’s local Title-1 Elementary school, cultivating a community resource pipeline that affords arts-focused inspiration and cultural guidance to a population that would otherwise not have regular access to the opportunity.
